Work Permit Eligibility
In order to be eligbile to apply for a Canadian work permit, you must meet ALL of the following conditions:
You may apply for a work permit without a job offer if you are in one of the following situations.
- have a job offer from a Canadian employer,
- have a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
You may apply for a work permit without a job offer if you are in one of the following situations.
- Permanent residence applicant applied to an office in Canada,
- Dependent family members of permanent residence applicants,
- Spouses and common-law partners of some foreign workers and international students,
- Refugees, refugee claimants, protected persons and their family members,
- Some temporary resident permit holders, or
- Young workers participating in IEC program
LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment)
A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada need to get before hiring a foreign worker.
A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker is available to do the job. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a confirmation letter.
The foreign worker can apply for a work permit only after the employer gets the LMIA.
Exception:
Certain type of job such as athlete, student-working off or on campus do not require the employer to have an LMIA. Contact us today, we will advise if an LMIA is required for you job.
