- Hong Kong Youth are now eligible for Open Work Permit
Canada announced a new policy to allow eligible Hong Kong residents in Canada or abroad with recently completed post-secondary studies to apply for an open work permit, which may be valid for up to 3 years.
What Is Open Work Permit? It is a criminal offense to work in Canada without proper authorization, which could lead to deportation. Prior to applying for a work permit, you must first have accepted a job offer in Canada, and obtained a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment(LMIA) from your employer.
To obtain a LMIA, your employer must go through all the extra steps and file an application with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). On the contrary, an Open Work Permit lets you work for any employer in Canada, and you do not need a job offer and a LMIA to apply. Who is qualified for Open Work Permit Usually, you can only get an open work permit in specific situations,
